I think I recently read that it'll be premiering there on the same day as here. At least now you know it's available to watch if you do choose to check it out.

This is the first indication there was EVER an attempt to maybe a "continuation". Apparently Shiri was unavailable (probably due to Unreal at the time) so they went to all new version with new actors and a new telling....

Interesting preview of the show. It's very questionable if it will work!

Well if Carina was at the helm, I'm fine if they didn't do a continuation! Please. I wonder if she's just beefing it up and a continuation was never even in the books.

Interesting that she only names Shiri as unavailable, as if she was the only cast member on the show...

I think now they're just trying to spin it because while there's a lot of positive buzz around it, there's also more pushback and negativity than they were probably expecting. There is no way that network was ever planning to continue it, none. It doesn't fit with the network's inclusiveness or Carina's constant narrative that the original "was too white." They just want to poach the people who are on the fence. I think this might only make people angrier though.

I was on Twitter and saw EW tweet out that article and someone mentioned the same thing and noticed Brendan "liked" the comment. Guess they were wrong in thinking that ALL of the old cast was supportive. We all knew that, but apparently the rest of them are blind to the subtle jabs.

I'm editing to add in a new review from TV Guide. It's somewhat mixed, but more negative than positive. Much like the one review that said the show was "decent enough" this one says "I suppose it will do for now." Ouch.

Thanks for sharing - I've seen about three different previews on TV and so far I'm not sensing any of the magic that our Roswell had. I guess it's too early to tell, though.

We shall see. From what I saw there was no magic like our show at all. It is basically a teenage drama of the movie Cowboys and Aliens That is what they said they wanted the concept to be. Hot Cowboys and a western.

The reviewer doesn't seem to remember much about the original show because to me the fact that they were teenagers facing adult issues made it way more compelling... And had the capacity to mean a lot more drama than a bunch of 28 years facing drama now when they should be more mature, and able to handle life's realities...
I totally agree with you Jasper!

Maybe Brendan liked it hoping to get B&T off the ground.

I saw a three huge posters in the city promoting the new show last night in one of the subways.

For articles saying how original was too white just annoys me.

Majandra who played Maria is Venezuelan and Adam Rodriguez who played Jessie is Puerto Rican. Jason Behr who played Max has mix ancestry including Spanish and Objibwe, a Native American tribe.

So for them to say that this is the most diverse cast then the original just rubs me the wrong way. Even when I was at the talk at Comic Con it was all about how diverse the cast is from the original. It was all they talked about and not the over all story of Roswell and the acting and cast. It was all about how they looked as a cast.

I remember an article that came out in 1999 saying how divere the original Roswell cast was.

Diversity on Roswell

Several people have commented in e-mail, and on the board about the issue of diversity on Roswell, and specifically why Liz Ortecho from the books became Liz Parker on the show. This older article, addressed that question.

The Cast of Roswell, Outsiders for the Millennium

One of the first things a casual television viewer will notice about Roswell, the WB network’s new teen-alien hybrid, is that it takes place on a planet of the young and photogenic.

Like Felicity, Dawson’s Creek or any other WB hour-length drama aimed at the under-30 demographic — even the venerable Buffy — Roswell is stocked with fresh faces, few of whom are likely to be familiar to even the most celebrity-jaded Hollywood insiders. Only a handful of genuinely adult characters get more than a few lines of dialogue, while most of the other featured performers are in their early 20s. A few, notably Venezuela-born Majandra Delfino, who plays the obligatory “best friend and confidant” role here, are barely out of high school themselves.

By adding a hint of Hispanic authenticity, Delfino also serves to anchor the series in the real-world Roswell’s deeply Southwestern (and hence Latin) roots. Both David Nutter and Jason Katims, two of the show’s executive producers, have expressed a desire to make their Roswell reflect New Mexico’s varied ethnic map, with Nutter in particular being very firm about the production’s “responsibility and challenge to examine diversity.”

This diversity extends to the show’s adult characters, with Michael Horse, an actor of mixed Pueblo descent, effectively reprising the sheriff’s right-hand-man role that made him a cult figure in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. Although Horse’s role is relatively minor in Roswell so far (he is not mentioned in the show’s official press materials), his dry wit is always a welcome addition to the scenes in which he appears.

However, Nutter and Katims made the difficult choice of transforming the show’s starring role from the Latina “Liz Ortecho” of the original young-adult novels to the WASPier “Liz Parker.”

The decision to change the character’s name and, by implication, downplay her ethnicity was due to newcomer Shiri Appleby’s brilliant audition, Nutter said.

“You cast for parts, you look for the best actor, regardless of where they come from,” he said. “Shiri Appleby came in and she definitely encapsulated everything we wanted to see in that part.”

They released a clip of the shooting scene:

http://youtu.be/7C27kanUHfE

Seeing it in its actual context vs. reading it...I was hoping maybe my opinion would change. But nope, still underwhelming and I still personally believe the creative decision to stage it in an empty Crashdown is part of that.

Blarghhhh....it's so hard not to compare that to our shooting scene, but I just can't help it. It's empty and there's nothing to it.

It was so anticlimactic when I watched the shooting scene in the new reboot at New York Comic Con. No one was cheering after or clapping. To me it doesn't make any scene for the Crashdown to be empty at night. I also love how when the lights explode when Max is healing her how no one in the town on the street noticed that.

I swear their are so many gaps and disconnects in this new pilot it's insane and kind of boring. I couldn't wait for it to be over. Also from the amount of views that new clip got tells me there is no excitement or buzz for this new show.

I really hope it crashes and burns!

Thinking of a happier time. Here is part one of the Roswell pilot with our intense, passionate, and heart pounding shooting scene.

The way Max says your alright now your alright and looks into Liz's eyes! Chills every time!

The fact the shooting in our version happened in broad daylight and with plenty of people around brought the heights of what Max and Michael were hiding from, and what Max was risking with save Liz. It immediately brought plenty of drama especially when two of the people there that day came back in a later episode and risked the secrets of that day.

So if it's done without any people around... how does it risk anything. But we shall how it plays.

Turns out the State of Union isn't until the 29th, so Roswell New Mexico doesn't have a high wattage competition in week two... so we shall see the true test if it can hold or gain.

But because the last minute presidential speech this past Tuesday, the schedules got mixed up and some shows might be back this Tuesday with fresh episode so we shall if that causes problems for the debut of Roswell New Mexico.

I don't know how it plays because Flash is such a different show!

Looks like they have scheduled the season finale for Tuesday, April 23rd.

I'm actually legitimately angry about that whole scene, it's just that bad. That's THE most important scene and they butchered it horribly. It's so over the top and so cheesy and yeah, you can see where I'm going with this. That scene should have succeeded in making me want to keep watching to find out what happens, but it just doesn't. It lacks everything I needed to see in that moment.

I completely agree re: the daytime shooting, and what Max was willing to do to protect Liz and potentially expose himself.

Having the shooting at nighttime with nobody around, and Max looking like he's taking a big poop is just doing absolutely nothing for me.
