I think without a massive, massive, move to curb climate change, it's going to just get worse. With us rolling back environmental protections, at a very fast pace, I'm worried. There is no way it can be contained in the US. It's going to make things worse across the world.

I don't think there is anything to stop the spread, and growing strength of the alt-right, all across the world. Call me a defeatist, but they can't be reasoned with, and I don't see a way to stop them.

I can't imagine being that aware, caring that much about something outside myself, or standing up for what she believes. That is amazing to me. I am thrilled her family is with her, and supporting her. I am disgusted that anyone would go against a child. A freaking child, just because she's expressing herself.

Trump signed an executive order to promise sanctions against anyone trying to interfere in our elections, including spreading propaganda. It's a little late. How is he going to replenish the millions he stole from the funds allocated to increase cybersecurity? Then, how do you investigate? How do you stop propaganda? How do you do any of it, and how many years will it take to prove other countries tried, or did it? http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-45503498 I mean, come on. He's trying to be able to say "See, don't try to impeach me. See, I'm being tough on interference so you can trust me, and vote GOP. See, no one would dare interfere in the mid term elections, so you can trust the results."

The alt-right is growing. I think that much is clear. And you're right, it's growing globally. I shudder to think what it'll take for this growth to revert. Climate conditions play into that because, as resources get more scarce, people will fight over them. But I do believe that good will eventually prevail, because it always has.

Trump is doing my head in. He doesn't believe there was collusion, but he'll sign an executive order to make sure it never happens again? Because that makes sense.

Dianne Feinstein alerts authorities to secret Brett Kavanaugh letter So now we'll get to see if people really meant all this support of the #MeToo movement. I'm guessing it won't really change anything, but it will be revealing all the same.

What scares me, is the alt-right has been hanging around us all-just looking for chances to take action, and to spread hate and violence.

Trump said that 3000 people didn't die in Maria, and that it's a Democrat plot against him. Oh, and that a lot of the people there were old, and would have died soon anyway. He is truly gone off the deep end.

I wish that letter Feinstein has would change things. I don't see any way to protect the source, and the authorities being involved? It makes me really wonder what all is in it. I can't see anything stopping the confirmation. The GOP doesn't care how corrupt he is, how racist he is, or that he may have been part of covering up sexual harassment. He'll fit right in with this GOP.

Typhoon Manghut is strengthening, with winds of 160mph. heading toward the Philippines. They are expecting a storm surge of 13 feet. China is also preparing, as well as Hong Kong. A lot of people are staying, because they don't want their houses burglarized. Not sure I'd stay for that. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-45517803

Zimbabwe has launched a CrowdFund, to get people to contribute money to help fight the cholera outbreak. Their top priority is to get medicines that will actually work, as people aren't responding to the antibiotics they have. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-45520784

Manafort is flipping. He agreed to cooperate with investigators. He has to tell every little thing he knows to the court, since he plead guilty. If he does not fully cooperate, they'll bring the charges against him to court. He plead guilty to Conspiracy Against the US, and Obstruction of Justice (trying to get witnesses to change their testimony, or any testimony they may give). So, there are 5 charges left they can take him to trial on, if he fails to tell everything.. He has to give all information on anyone who broke the law. Guess he decided he couldn't trust Trump to pardon him. Smart. http://www.cnn.com/2018/09/14/polit...lea/index.html

Have you heard of that study that apparently just came out?
They did immense research on the connection between financial crashes and people turning towards extreme right wing politics. Absolutely fascinating. I had never thought about that before. Apparently there is a huge shift in the first ten years after a financial crash. On the radio they also explained how - especially in the US - the last crash has cost everyone a huge amount of money except rich people are now richer than ever before.
It sounds stupid when I try to retell it but it was really fascinating

Paul Manafort's tale is a sad 1 that seems to be mostly about greed. It kind of reminds me of Bernie Madoff.

So, Michael Avenatti went on Tucker Carlson's show this week & apparently it was a shouting match not surprisingly, but in a graphic on screen it read about Avenatti: ''CREEPY PORN LAWYER''

Here's that interview:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/ne...arlson-1143388

Seems unprofessional to me, but I suppose if you're Avenatti you should have known what you're getting into by going on Carlson's show. Strange irony I guess if Avenatti is considered creepy by FOX News, but not Donald Trump. Give me a break.

Tucker Carlson wasn't acting professionally? I am so very shocked. Oh, wait. No I'm not. That's how he wound up on Fox News to begin with, isn't it? "Fox News: where your lack of journalistic professionalism is not a problem."

Kia, I've heard about versions of that study for years and years. It's interesting that they're now specifically trying financial crises to extremism now, but I think the notion that a lack of ressources leads to a rise in extremism has been around.

Kim, I sorta like that the new government in Zimbabwe is looking for a concrete way to address the cholera epidemic. I'm not sure the people (who weren't cronies of Mugabe) still have money to spare on that, to be honest. But it could work. Provided this new government doesn't do like the old one and use that money to line its pockets. OK, I really did just mean to say I loved the idea.

The story of Paul Manafort is a tale as old as time, isn't it? Rich guy has reached the end of the road on how he can continue to organize events so they can work to his advantage, so all that's left is to limit the ways in which events will be damaging to him. No honour among thieves and all that.

Two skinheads convicted over 2013 death of anti-fascist activist I do so enjoy it when the rule of law and common sense both prevail. The men will appeal their convictions. Let them. They won't win.

Incoming Mexican government rejects US offer to fund deportations I think POTUS is in for a rude awakening if he thinks he can work with AMLO the same way he pushed around the previous Mexican government. I mean, I could be in for a rude shock there, but I don't think I am...

China’s pitiless war on Muslim Uighurs poses a dilemma for the west We said Never Again after World War II, and we've already let down history several times on that count. China's Muslim minority looks to be the next minority ethnic group to be exterminated while the rest of us not only look on and watch, but still do business with the government that does that.

Haven't even heard of that law yet

I still need to find a link but here a lot of activists are on the news and the pics are surreal. There is a huge forest in Germany that belongs to an energy company and they wanna destroy it for profit. Hundreds and thousands of people are trying to stop it so you see young people chained to trees and police squads with weapons trying to stop them. Makes my heart hurt watching that...
In interviews you can tell the police don't want to go through with it but they have to

it's certainly odd that the whole entire Arab world will condemn America and the West, the great satan they call us, for all it's interference in Arab countries, politics, wars, oil, etc etc etc, but they won't call out China, not one single solitary word, for it's forced re-education and brainwashing of the ethnic Uiqhur Muslim minority, some 3.8-4 million population. this 're-education' includes forced relocation to camps, loss of all property, status, jobs, identity, and there are reports now of genocide murders of those not adhering to the brain-washing. China is actively wiping out this population by any means, similar to what they have been doing to Tibet since 1951. why does the Arab world not say anything about this genocide?!

And I wouldn't say the whole Arab world condemns the west. Naturally there is friction where interference took place but otherwise

I think generalizations don't help anyone. There are Arabs who go around saying "death to America" and there are Americans who think it's a shame we put an end to slavery. I would imagine most Arabs and most Americans are reasonable people who do the best they can with what they have.

Elon Musk sued for libel by British Thai cave rescuer This could get interesting. On the one hand, Musk was so way out of line here. On the other hand, he was so out of a line that I find it difficult to believed Mr Unsworth suffered damages as a result, which is usually the crux of libel cases.

Coca-Cola 'in talks' over cannabis-infused drinks Oh, boy. This has disaster written all over it. They're trying to regulate energy drinks so that kids stop dying over drinking them and now Coca-Cola wants to sell pot-infused pop? This won't end well.

Egyptian archaeologists find sphinx at Aswan temple So that's cool...

I honestly think there are a lot more reasonable people, than extremists.

Maybe he's suffered damages in they way he's being treated, since Elon's comments? Like at his job, which he has to have. I don't know. I may be reaching.

I'd be high all the time I think. Yeah, how the heck do you even begin to control that?

That sphinx...things were clearly taken care of, and created, so much better. That is amazing. I think it's so cool to find something that impressive.

So, Trump just attacked Jeff Sessions again, saying he doesn't have an attorney general. He's saying "A lot of people have said I should fire him. We'll see what happens.", his usual comments. Also that it's very unfair that Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation. For being so "powerful" Trump sure is a victim. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-45577781 Seriously, how long do we have to endure this stupidity and incompetence? I have no faith in the mid terms. I'm sure people will vote, I just know Trump has done everything he possibly can to encourage, and enable, interference.

Agencies prepare for releasing Russia probe files, by order of Trump. The 21 pages make up only a small portion of the 412 pages of FISA applications and warrants related to Page released by the FBI earlier this year in a heavily redacted format. He also wants texts from agents (Comey, McCabe, etc) who he thinks were conspiring against him. Odd, that he wants transparency, yet he's only releasing those files. You'd think he'd release them all, to prove it was all a conspiracy against him-the whole Russia investigation. Oh, that's right, he wants to cherry pick so he can convince on the fence GOP voters that no one can be trusted but him. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018...ump-order.html Seriously, enough already. Just enough. If he wants transparency, lets start with his taxes.

Speaking of marijuana http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-45572271 2 women were arrested for selling marijuana infused baked goods at the church, in Georgia. Oh the irony.

ETA-Just watched Hillary in her interview on Rachel Maddow, from last night. Just like me, she's worried that we are nearing an Authoritarian country. She's right-if we don't win the midterms, we are in very serious trouble. On top of that, I'm also worried that if we, by some miracle, win Congress, of what Trump will do between November and January, before he could be reigned in. She just spoke out loud all of my fears.

That sphinx looks awesome! It amazes me how things can survive that long!!!

about the ladies at the church

And as scary as it is, it's good to know others see the problems too, I guess...

I need to still see Clinton's interview. So do you think this Kavanaugh guy is going to be voted onto the Supreme Court & then Roe V. Wade will be overturned fairly soon or not?
