I just wanted to actually hit 300 for once before doing it.

I fully plan on starting the next one.

I'm glad you had a great birthday, Kimmie.

You have to convince yourself that you deserve good things so that you can enjoy them fully when they happen.
You are very right about convincing myself.

I always tend to think it says something about me that's not right, or that I don't deserve it, for sure.

Thanks for the new thread.

And the thing is, you don't to do or be anything in particular to deserve nice things, you know?

You deserve them just because you're you, warts and all.

Thanks.

Watching Cook's Country.

They're doing a tasting of grapefruit juice.

Oh my gosh!

I remember the first time I tasted grapefruit juice.

Took some getting used to, cause I was a kid.

Is it fresh grapefruit juice?

Was there a lot of difference, if they tried different ones?

It was a blind test of all kinds of grapefruit juices to see if the show's host could pick out which was the favourite of the panel they have that do these tastings.

It's America's Test Kitchen, right?

So they have "expert" testers and they also have a sampling of "regular people" tasting.

The idea is what will the host prefer himself?

He knows what he's talking about, so his opinion is always worth having.

But he's also a bit of a food snob, so sometimes his preferences aren't the same as what the popular masses like, you know?

That difference is always fun.

For instance, in the grapefruit juice test, the idea was to find the best you can find in a grocery store.

Well, sure enough, the host picked out of the blind test the fresh-squeezed sample.

Thank you for explaining the show to me.

I was having a hard time picturing it.

Yeah, I get that.

I'm always curious about what the experts will think, but I also kind of doubt what they say.

That's what happens with me.

that he picked that one.

I've never really understood the palettes thing, the way they taste things so well.

Well, that's not the whole show.

It's a segment on the show.

There are usually four segments.

One is the blind test thing I just described.

Another is an equipment test.

And the last two are cooking segments.

I can't tell the difference between this juice and that juice.

But then, since that is his job, maybe his palate is more refined than most.

He may always have had a more refined palate, the way some people are good at noticing details or whatever, or maybe he's "trained" so long that it's become this way over time.

Either way, it's a good show.

They put too much cheese in everything, but that's okay.

Okay-I didn't realize they have 4 different segments.

I'd like it even if it weren't.

I like learning how other people see things, as far as tasting, or things I don't know about-especially shows where food is judged.

That makes sense-I guess we all have different gifts, things that we're good at that not everyone is.

You know I love my cheese, so I'd like that.

The good part is that, in all the segments, they always explain why.

Why he prefers this grapefruit juice over the other.

Why the testers liked some juices over others.

Why they're cooking the recipe this way as opposed to that way.

Why this piece of equipment was the prefered one.

So it lets the viewer see for themselves what works for them.

That's smart.

Knowing why makes it all make sense.

That's also great-that they give the options, and the viewer gets to decide.

It's way better sounding to me than if they were saying which one to choose.

In the equipment tests, especially, they're really smart.

Because, usually, what they find is best is the most expensive option.

The best pans, slow-cookers, coffee makers, etc. are usually the most expensive.

But they also find a second place that's also very good, but much more affordable.

So it gives the viewer a more budget-friendly option.

And I think that's smart, because most of us can't afford to have the most expensive version of everything, you know?

I definitely agree-that's really smart, and intelligent, of them, to have an affordable, yet great option.

It's good to know there are options.

Most shows I've seen don't really.

Or they don't tell you what they're using.

I definitely would need the 2nd option.
