My father had a great love for slapstick movies, especially those involving Peter Sellers, Mel Brooks and Lesie Nielsen. He also loved dogs, trains, pasta and trees and the Studebaker Avanti. He hated bad drivers, cut Christmas trees and current US Presidents. A Navy man, he more than lived up (or down) to the "curse like a salior" mantra and as an engineer he showed a laser like focus on his task at hand. As a widower, he eagerally took on the role of both grandparents to his four grandchildren providing laughs, hugs and a non judgemental safe space for when they needed it. We lost him two months ago and this is the first Father's Day without him. I cherish the time so had with him, but selfishly I want more. He wasn't just my Dad, he was my best friend and I love and miss him every single second of every day. Happy Father's Day to all the dad's out there, make sure you love and honor those closest to you. They won't be around forever.

And not to make this too depressing, here are some clips from those aforementioned movies to hopefully make you laugh a bit.

Thank you for sharing that about your father. Sorry for the delay in response and also for your loss. I'm happy that my father and I get along now as he's getting up there in years.

I hope Demi Lovato pulls through. Heroin? I think my jaw dropped. I didn't think it was that bad.

Thanks for the kind words.

Neil Simon, who died today, wrote many great plays and movies. Here's one of my favorite moments from one of his best.

And this was released 50 years ago today...

One of my favorite movies of all time is Murder by Death and oddly enough, despite the age difference, Stefan and I have the same childhood memory.

Or maybe I rewatched my parents HBO recorded VHS copy over and over.

Not sure when I got that joke.

Hope, this is the right thread: I´m thinking about a journey to Canada and I wanted to see, if any canadian is around here, who can answer me some questions about public transport in Canada.

I'm not Canadian, but I do know that Toronto and Montreal have pretty expansive metro systems, not sure about the rest of the country. I actually rode Montreal 's system once, although that wasn't even in this century.

This, of course, features Degrassi's most famous alum. Thrre's also a nice little surprise at the end.

I've never been to Vancouver...I want to...I will...
Anyway I'll take this coast. They have above and below trains. Buses - on ground and water.

That is an extremely informative get where you want to go video. But I want to watch things move...here we go!

Thanks for the videos. It answers a few question, taken it´s similar in other canadian towns. Good news is, you can still use cash. Now I need to find out, if that´s true for trains as well. And if there are long-distance buses etc.

I'm moving into my condo this weekend! I'm doing all the packing and hired some guys to carry and drive my things...a few blocks. But this place has a pool, gym, and I own what is inside my walls.

Whoops, I forgot to call Centurylink. I'm guessing they won't hook my wifi up for me in a day, but they could, maybe? I like to imagine wifi as this magical thing.

I think all my crap is in boxes. Ow. Weed helps. God bless fair Seattle.

Speaking of...

I hope they've had a nice couple weeks.

Anyone watching any new TV shows this fall? My favorite new one is Single Parents, which is pretty funny and has a great cast. I haven't been watching too many others, although one that I have been watching is the Magnum P.I. reboot, which is better than I thought it would be. My dad would have watched that, speaking of which, today would have been his 81st birthday. Happy birthday Dad! Sorry the Ravens **** the bed.

I hope these big guys have a better shot up north. They aren't waiting for midterms to be over.

Remaining caribou in Washington, Idaho being moved to Canada

"...After decades of trying to reintroduce caribou to Idaho and Washington state, the surviving animals will be relocated to Canada for breeding.

...The six mountain caribou remaining in the lower 48 states will be relocated farther north into Canada, a move that ends decades of efforts to reintroduce the large animals into Idaho and Washington state.

...Mountain caribou were listed as an endangered species in the U.S. in 1983."

I recently saw a musical, that is subject wise a bit like Degrassi on a catholic boarding school. If you have the chance to watch it, I can really recommend it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bare:_A_Pop_Opera

A movie adaption was announced this year, but there seems to be a silence about it since August. But that´s something we´re used to here by now, isn´t it?

One of the great things about the internet is that you can keep up to date on all your favorite entertaiment things and follow along as it's produced and eventually released. On the other hand, one of the bad things about the internet is that you hear more about those projects and when you don't see or hear anything about it for months or years it really sucks in a way that you can't help but wish you had been blissfully unaware that anything was ever planned in the first place.

My brother-in-law has been playing and/or singing this song in constant mode for the last few months. So now it's going to be stuck in your head too.

Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Americans, and to our friends in Canada and other places, have a great rest of the week and weekend.
