Laura/Donna #17: Because Orange Is the New Awesome!

Welcome to the Laura Prepon/Donna Pinciotti Appreciation thread.

{by Court (Majora's Mask)}

Laura Mini biography:

Known as “Big Red,” due to her 5’10” frame and naturally red hair, Laura Prepon has been a staple on the young Hollywood scene since starring in “That ‘70s Show” (Fox, 1998-2006 ) as Donna Pinciotti, the quintessential girl-next-door alongside stars, Topher Grace (Eric), Danny Masterson (Hyde) and Ashton Kutcher (Michael).

Born March 7, 1980 in Watchung, NJ to father, Michael (an orthopedic surgeon), and her mother, Marjorie (a teacher), Prepon was fifth-born in a family that included a brother, Brad and three sisters, Danielle, Jocelyn and Stephanie. Unfortunately for the tight-knit siblings, their father died in 1993 from complications during heart surgery. Prepon attended Watchung Hills Regional High School, until she caught the acting bug at age 15, deciding to quit regular school and transferred to Total Theatre Lab, a specialized theater college based in New York City. As she continued to hone her acting skills, Prepon appeared in such plays as “A Woman of Property” and Ascension Day,” as well as began to study dance – ballet, jazz and modern. Due to her striking, unique look, the aspiring actress soon began landing modeling jobs both stateside and abroad, jetting around the world to fabulous locations such as Paris and Milan. Despite the glamour of it all, Prepon grew disillusioned by the cutthroat nature of the modeling world. Laura felt that showbiz would be less competitive, so she changed careers midstream.

Prepon’s life changed forever when she sent an audition tape to the creators of “That 70's Show” – a show about teenage buddies growing up in Wisconsin during the carefree 1970s. The creators loved her, sending her a plane ticket to Los Angeles to audition one-on-one with the top contenders. Of course, Prepon won the role and was perfectly suited to playing Donna Pinciotti, the dry humored girl-next-door of the group. The show was a hit from the start, lasting eight years.

With her profile raised by the hit show, Prepon became a vital part of the new millennium’s young Hollywood scene. The ravishing redhead was ranked #50 in Maxim magazine's "Hot 100 of 2002" supplement, as well as #84 in Stuff magazine's "102 Sexiest Women in the World” that same year. She has been on TWO maxim covers as a Redhead and a blond.

Knowing her days wearing bell bottoms were limited, Prepon continued to hone her skills in films like “Karla,” (2005) Despite the sad conclusion of her sitcom’s run, Prepon had two movies slated for release in 2006 -- “Come Early Morning” starring Ashley Judd and the TV movie “Romancing the Bride.” She also spends a great deal of time promoting her passion for poker and she along with Chris and Danny have purchased partial ownership in "Cardplayer Magazine" She is also starred on a new one hour drama for ABC called "October Road" But whatever she is in we will watch cause we cant get enough Laura!

That's true! Huh. Donna and Eric should've been supportive of Jackie and Hyde at the beginning of S5. Eric shouldn't have called Jackie the devil, either, considering how many times she defused Donna's anger at him. His hostility toward Jackie is one of Eric's less endearing qualities.

They should have but Eric always disliked Jackie so I'm not surprised by his reaction and Jackie was the second girl he ended up calling Yoko He must want all of Hyde's attention.

Eric must have. It was really lame that he called both Jill and Jackie "Yoko," so that line never makes me laugh (because it wasn't specific to the girl -- but to the fact Hyde had a girl at all). It just annoys me.

Donna should've a) been on Jackie's side at the beginning of S5 and informed Eric that their relationship is as good as it is partially thanks to Jackie. "So we owe her."

Then Eric could freak out over the idea of owing Jackie anything.

I never thought of it that way, Eric didn't like Hyde having a girlfriend, he didn't want Hyde to be taken away.

Donna should have defended Jackie in the beginning of season 5, Jackie was so supportive of Eric and Donna a lot of the time.

It annoys me that Eric couldn't be happy for his friend in both of those situations. Donna should have been on Jackie's team all the way regardless of how Eric felt about the situation.

I put my response to this here: Rebel Alliance (Eric&Hyde) #4: Because Their Pillow Fights Get Violent

Figured it fits more there.

Totally agree. She watched Kelso be a cheating dog all summer (well, technically not cheating once Kelso got Jackie's break-up letter -- but still), so her attitude about Jackie dating Kelso's "best friend" is just ridiculous.

Donna not only watched Kelso cheat that summer, but she also watched him cheat on Jackie multiple times before, I wish she could have been a little happier for Jackie.

Is Laura still on the show? I thought I remember reading somewhere that she wasn't coming back for season 2

The word was that she wouldn't come back, but I think it's somewhat official now that she'll be back in a somewhat reduced capacity. I don't know for sure though.
